Student Visa Application
2 questions
According to the laws and regulations of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, all persons who do not have the right of abode or the right to enter Hong Kong and want to study in Hong Kong must obtain a student visa / entry permit issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department before arriving in Hong Kong.
Please note that the University will only assist non-local students* who are admitted to full-time face-to-face taught postgraduate programmes to apply for a student visa.
If you apply for a part-time face-to-face programme, you must have a valid visa / entry permit issued by the Immigration Department for the duration of your studies at the University.
*Non-local applicants are those who (1) require a student visa to study in Hong Kong, or (2) hold a visa under the “Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates” (IANG), or (3) hold a dependent visa and were aged 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa by the Director of Immigration.
Due to the volume of student visa applications being processed, we kindly request your patience during this period. It normally takes 8 to 10 weeks for the Hong Kong Immigration Department to process an application. To ensure efficiency, we discourage sending emails to inquire about the status of your visa application as it may slow down the process. Please be assured that the University is committed to expediting the processing of student visa applications. If any issues arise, the University will directly contact the applicant. For more information on student visa applications, please visit admissions.hkmu.edu.hk/student-visa.
