General Entrance Requirements
The renamed Liberal Studies subject, which is now known as Citizenship and Social Development, of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) will be changed from being graded in five levels to being marked as “Attained” and “Not Attained” starting from 2024. In relation to this, the University has decided that the general entrance requirements for the JUPAS admission will be adjusted as follows in 2024 and onwards:
| HKDSE Subjects | Core Subjects | Elective Subjects | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chinese Language | English Language | Mathematics (Compulsory Part) | Citizenship and Social Development | Elective 1 | Elective 2 | |
| General Entrance Requirements | Level 3 | Level 3 | Level 2 | Attained | Level 2 | Level 2 |
- Unless otherwise stated in the Programme-specific subject requirements, HKDSE Category B subjects (Applied Learning) with attainment at “Attained” or above; or Category C subjects (Other Languages) at specified levels can be considered as elective subjects, and up to 2 Category B subjects (excluding Applied Learning Chinese) will be recognized as electives.
- Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) and Liberal Studies (LS) are recognized as one subject and only one with best result will be considered in the score calculation. “Attained” or above in CSD will be counted as ‘Level 2’ and included in the score calculation. LS will not be recognized for meeting the elective requirement of General Entrance Requirements.
- Mathematics Extended Part (i.e. Module 1 (Calculus and Statistics) / Module 2 (Algebra and Calculus)) will be counted as an elective subject. If applicants have taken both Module 1 and Module 2, only the module with best result will be taken into consideration.
- In addition to the General Entrance Requirements, individual programme may require specific subject requirements. Also, some programmes may give higher weighting to certain subjects, core and/or elective, and some may also grant preference to certain elective subjects in admission selection.
- The University accepts combined results of HKDSE examination. The best results will be considered for meeting the entrance requirements and for the calculation of admission scores. There is no grade penalty for multiple sittings.
- Admission to the programme is on a competitive basis. The University considers an applicant’s whole profile (such as band choices, preferred subjects and interview performance, etc.), in addition to the HKDSE score. As such, satisfying the university admission requirements does not guarantee admission.
Admission Score Calculation
The admission scores are calculated by multiplying the converted points of the best 5 subjects in HKDSE by the respective subject weighting, as stipulated by the programme concerned, and then adding the products of each of the 5 subjects together. The HKDSE examination results will be converted as follows when calculating admission score:

Category A: Senior Secondary Subjects
| Level | 5** | 5* | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 |
