Financial Assistance
HKMU students taking research postgraduate programmes may apply for financial assistance offered by the University (www.hkmu.edu.hk/sao/fa/) or the HKSAR Government.
Interest-free Tuition Installment Plan
Students who are the principal cardholders of any BOCHK UnionPay credit cards can apply for the “Interest-free Tuition Installment Plan” to pay their tuition fees. For details, please refer to the University website.
Government Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS)
The ENLS provides financial assistance in the form of loan(s) for students to settle tuition fees and it is administered by the Student Finance Office (SFO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA). Postgraduate Studentships (PGS)
The University offers Postgraduate Studentships (PGS) to support full-time PhD or MPhil research students. PGS is offered through nomination by the School in which the students are/will be enrolled in. In addition to the monthly payments, tuition fee waiver is also provided to PGS recipients.
PGS is offered on a yearly basis; candidates are assessed based on various factors including but not limited to academic ability and research strengths. Renewal of PGS is subject to satisfactory academic and research performance and the approval of the Research Degrees Committee.
- Round 1 — Autumn Admissions
Submit admission application by end of March. Nominations considered in May.
- Round 2 — Spring Admissions
Submit admission application by end of August. Nominations considered in September.
Other Scholarships & Awards
This scholarship aims to award and recognise outstanding research degree students who have achieved very satisfactory progress or developed a research proposal of special merit in the MPhil or PhD programmes. The award is offered through nomination by the School in which the students are enrolled in.
舒小佩慈善基金—都大哲學博士生交通及出版補助計劃 — This scheme aims to further enhance the academic status of the University by financially supporting transportation and rewarding accomplishments in publication of full-time PhD students. Each approved full-time PhD student receives a transport subsidy and a reward for quality publication.

CARS provides financial support to research students for attending academic conferences to present their research findings, nurturing their academic and professional development. The maximum amount of financial support is:
- HK$20,000 — PhD or Doctoral student (throughout study period)
- HK$10,000 — MPhil student (throughout study period)

This scholarship aims to support outstanding full-time local PhD students in STEAM-related disciplines, fostering their engagement in Hong Kong’s innovation and technology sector. Successful candidates must demonstrate academic excellence and pursue research with potential to positively impact the development of the society. A strong commitment to Hong Kong and active participation in the innovation and technology industry are essential.

This scholarship aims to recognise and encourage female postgraduates who conduct high-quality original research of significant value to society and to the body of knowledge. Successful candidates should also demonstrate leadership, team spirit, and achievements in their chosen disciplines through research and practice. Involvement and participation in community services will also be assessed.
